Save The Date: Cannabis In The Capitol 2020

Cannabis advocates gather at the Statehouse to push for bill allowing commercial sale of cannabis products. 

With the Vermont legislature primed to work on – and potentially pass – a tax and regulate bill in the 2020 session, Heady Vermont, Marijuana Policy Project, and a coalition of cannabis advocates will gather at the Statehouse in Montpelier on Thursday, January 9, 2020 for Cannabis In The Capitol.

Organizers and allies will meet with legislators, promote the benefits of regulation, champion social justice, and highlight the economic development opportunities inherent in and around the cannabis industry – from growing and making to ancillary services such as security, testing, product tracking, insurance, banking, and canna-tourism.

“This event will bring together the diverse voices behind the legalization movement to talk with legislators about how to do this the Vermont way.”

“With a strong majority the House of Representatives ready to vote in favor of finally regulating Vermont’s thriving cannabis economy, I’m excited to kick off the 2020 legislative session with this great event.” says Middlebury attorney and pro bono drug policy reform advocate Dave Silberman. “This event,” he adds, “will bring together the diverse voices behind the legalization movement to talk with legislators about how to do this the Vermont way: centering social and economic justice, and empowering Vermonters to create the next great craft industry.”

“As legalized cannabis sales to adults becomes a reality, we must make sure that we remain accountable to the devastating legacy of cannabis prohibition and the egregious racism promulgated in its name.”

The day will include an informal meet-and-greet breakfast with legislators, a press Conference with legislators and advocates, and educational opportunities for legislators and interested members of the public.

“As legalized cannabis sales to adults becomes a reality, we must make sure that we remain accountable to the devastating legacy of cannabis prohibition and the egregious racism promulgated in its name,” says Vermont Coalition To Regulate Marijuana’s Laura Subin. “I look forward,” says Subin, “to working with legislative allies to keep criminal justice system reform at the forefront as we create a system of legalized sales that will be accessible to the traditionally most underserved Vermonters.”
