Exclusive Preview: Vermont Cannabis Week

Vermont Cannabis Week
Heady Vermont Staff 17 Apr 2017

As the snow melts away and yet another handful of cannabis reform bills work their way through the Statehouse, advocates, entrepreneurs and cannabis enthusiasts are gearing up for the state’s inaugural Vermont Cannabis Week. The groundbreaking event program designed by the Vermont Cannabis Association is the first of its kind, featuring medical, entrepreneurial, cultural and advocacy events throughout Vermont.

Throughout Vermont Cannabis Week, Vermonters are encouraged to host a Vermont Potluck and engage their friends, family and neighbors about cannabis legislation and the state’s growing cannabis community. The week kicks off with statewide 4/20 parties: In the heart of Burlington, Heady Vermont’s First Anniversary Party takes place at Skinny Pancake on the waterfront, with a mountain of raffle prizes and giveaways (including CBD products and grow supplies), and funk vinyl by DJ Taka. Meanwhile, Central Vermonters can hit up Waterbury’s Zen Barn 4/20 Party, featuring 8-piece all-star rocksteady band Steady Betty and Magic Hat beer specials. Down south in Brattleboro, dispensary hopeful Verdant Vermont is hosting a 4/20 Kick-Off party at Hazel Pizza, with appetizer and drink specials.

Over the weekend, Bern Gallery is hosting a Burlington Glassblowing Challenge at its Main Street location, a free-to-enter competition inviting the public to try their hand at blowing glass. Up the street at UVM’s Dana Medical Library, Greener Mountain Consulting is organizing Get Legal: How to Join Vermont’s Marijuana Registry, two informational workshops for those with an interest in joining the state’s medical marijuana program. Saturday culminates in an impressive display of flame with the Cleary Sculpture Burn at Zen Barn, featuring DJ Mashtadon and fire performers Cirque du Fuego.

Those interested in rolling up their sleeves and getting hands-on should check out Herbal Preps and Therapeutic Uses for Medicinal Cannabis at Railyard Apothecary on Monday, April 24 in Burlington. This class covers the basics of cannabis pharmacology, and different methods of using the plant including tinctures, oil extractions, topicals and edibles. Participants get to help make, and take home, a CBD salve. That evening, Heady Vermont will also host a special Vermont Cannabis Week edition of its Monday Livestream.

The Northeast Kingdom gets some action on Tuesday, April 25 at Parker Pie Co. with Cannabis in the Kingdom: Present and Future Potential in the NEK, an informal presentation and discussion of cannabis politics, the state’s medical marijuana program, and Vermont’s rapidly-growing hemp industry. Rep. Sam Young (D-Glover), an NEK native and sponsor of H.490, and Heady Vermont Editor Eli Harrington will be leading the discussion, and the evening includes $2 draft specials and a la carte taco specials.

On Wednesday, April 26, the Hemp Road Trip, a nationwide education and advocacy tour focused on hemp advocacy, will be rolling through Burlington, ending the day outside Main Street Landing for Cannabis Entrepreneurship: Tips from the Pros, a ticketed seminar for entrepreneurs and those interested in working in the cannabis industry. Sponsored and organized by cannabranding startup KIND Consulting, the event features three esteemed speakers, networking and a cash bar in the Great Room and Atrium on the third floor of Main Street Landing. All participants take home a goodie bag stocked by event sponsors.

Be sure to follow both Vermont Cannabis Week and Heady Vermont on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay tuned and get updates and coverage of the week’s events.
