Welcome to the first Heady Vermont cannabis product review! Expanding on our flower strain/cultivar reviews, we’re working with our reviewers to showcase the many different types of cannabis products hitting Vermont dispensaries this fall. Here, Liz Wiley reviews Highly Rooted edibles products, including their signature English Toffees, Sour Gummies, Snoozeberry Gummies and Chocolate Squares. Read on to learn more about these edibles – and where to buy them!

Taste and Transparency – if those are two words that come to mind when you think about edibles, this review is for you!

I love experimenting with cannabis, and flower consumption options seem to be endless these days – but my true love has always been edibles. The edibles I’m about to review are a far cry from the unpredictably dosed home-made brownies and cookies that lingered long into the next day.

These goodies are made by Highly Rooted Vermont, a licensed Tier 1 Cultivator in Morrisville, Vermont – application pending for a tier 2 Manufacturing license. They’re committed to helping people through the Vermont Cannabis Care Network, donating a portion of their proceeds and products to aid cancer patients across Vermont.

Founded and created by Troy and Michelle Chapman, these are the tastiest canna-treats that I’ve partaken. I love the transparency that they have with their community, providing full access to their Certificates of Analysis and ingredients. They offer an education section on their website where you can learn about what oils they use, their processes, and dosing recommendations.

I’ve had the pleasure of testing many recipes for Michelle and Troy in the past and with retail sales opening in Vermont, it’s the perfect time to give a little love to some of my favorite edibles!

Edibles Review: English Toffee

The texture is unique – smooth and buttery like caramel but has a more distinct, elevated flavor. The spice from the broad-spectrum cannabis distillate gives enough flare to let you know it’s infused – but doesn’t over-power the toffee.

“…one taste will sell you – this toffee isn’t like a caramel at all, and you’ll be left deciding to risk the high to have a few more.”

You might be wondering, “what’s the difference between a caramel and an english toffee,” and, well, it’s a family secret! Michelle’s English mother, Lynn, imports their family’s secret ingredient directly from England. Even though we may never know the secret to this delicious indulgence, one taste will sell you – this toffee isn’t like a caramel at all, and you’ll be left deciding to risk the high to have a few more.

Edibles Review: Sour Gummy

It’s hard for me to get “into” gummies, but these sours are so tasty, I forgot I was taking an edible! These are also made with Highly Rooted’s broad spectrum distillate oil, a 70/30 mixture that leaves room for cannabis terpenes to aid and balance the high. The flavors come in Apple, Watermelon, and Blue Raspberry. Tart but balanced, it’s hard to take just one.

“I know that when I reach for a Highly Rooted product, they’re going to be accurate to a science and passion.”

I found the dosage very even and accurate as labeled, which only adds to the trust I have for this brand. I know that when I reach for a Highly Rooted product, they’re going to be accurate to a science and passion. These gummies are ‘ol reliable – effective and consistent.

Edibles Review: Snoozeberry Gummies

Much like their standard gummy, the snoozeberry is rich in color and flavor. Equally tart and sweet – but the best part might be the sleepy effect. This gummy is designed with their broad-spectrum FECO oil to help the most restless sleeper.

“When I took this gummy before bed I woke up without feeling foggy and dry, which is a huge plus for this early-riser.”

Each gummy contains equal amounts of THC, CBD, and CBN to promote a healthy night’s sleep. These cannabinoids work with their sister cannabinoids, CBG, THC-A, and CBC to complete the entourage effect – further aiding the body as a whole. When I took this gummy before bed I woke up without feeling foggy and dry, which is a huge plus for this early-riser.

Edibles Review: Chocolate Squares

Shh…. These bad-boys aren’t on the market yet, but Highly Rooted is working hard to perfect these for retail. At the same size as their Sour Gummies, the chocolates have been made in Mint Dark Chocolate and Raspberry White Chocolate (a personal favorite!).

Instead of making these chocolates with Broad-spectrum distillate, they’re made with FECO, which is rather non-traditional for an edible. FECO usually has an awful taste that’s hard to mask, so the key is all in the tempering process.

Making these chocolates with potent oil like FECO allows for an accurate and high dosage threshold, and for that reason, these are only available to cancer patients through the VCCN currently – but I highly encourage you to keep an eye out for these hitting retail shelves in the coming year!
