Strain Review: Mike Larry x Gas Runtz by Midnight Farm

Liz Wiley 2 Oct 2022

This week’s strain review, Mike Larry x Gas Runtz, is provided by Midnight Farm out of Saint Johnsbury. Established in 2019 by Erin and Travis Rittenhouse, this licensed cultivator is one to keep an eye out for in the upcoming market! Not only is their farm named after their sweet pup, Midnight Rider, but they are also passionate about ethical and conscious cultivation.

I appreciated the accessibility of their website, being able to easily find their Certifications of Analysis. The ability to view these insights gives me an added safety net as a consumer and that peace of mind is so, so important as we further our markets.

Strain Review: Mike Larry x Gas Runtz

The strain provided is a cross between Mike Larry and Gas Runtz (Mkl x GRtz). I won’t bury the lead – this bud is straight up sexy. Because of the glass packaging, this sample was as perfect as it would have been, cut off the root and handed to me. Perfectly even, light green cola with deep purple and orange pistils. Heavily frosted with trichomes. All in a big chunky nug that still had great moisture. The flower broke cleanly off the stem, and much like Wedding Cake, I genuinely felt guilty for breaking it up to smoke it!

The smell of gas hits strongly at first, but dissipates into notes of citrus and chocolate. I lit the bud into a solo pipe and although the aftertaste was smokey and thick with diesel, it wasn’t an unpleasant inhale. The taste of this strain is very different from the smell as Caryophyllene embeds a strong pepper taste and Myrcene holds a clove taste vaguely reminiscent of incense.

The #thicc Trichomes left my fingers smelling like body odor – a trait of the aforementioned terpenes that comes as no surprise, given the lineage makeup of this strain. I picked up on many traits of Gelato #33 from the Runtz lineage; citrus smell, pepper taste, euphoric, energizing. Gelato #33 also gives this strain its heavy trichome profile.

During this session, my mind was sharp and I was very talkative. An almost instant euphoria turned to happiness very quickly, even as I came down from the peak. My body felt relaxed, while my mind felt tingly and I curbed everything with some munchies. Mkl x GRtz  kept my mind awake more than I would have liked for a late-night sesh, however, I could see myself smoking this during the day. I’d recommend this strain for a family function or light chores around the house.
