What’s Happening On October 1? A Guide to Vermont’s First Day of Cannabis Retail Sales

The big day is finally almost here. Saturday, October 1 is Vermont’s first day of legal rec sales. But industry pros and the Vermont Cannabis Control Board, in recent weeks, have cautioned that there may be less products on the shelf than expected. So where can you go and what can you do on October 1 and after?

Where Can I Go?
There are currently four licensed retailers in the Vermont: Mountain Girl Cannabis in Rutland, FLORA Cannabis in Middlebury, Ceres Collaborative in Burlington and Vermont Bud Barn in Brattleboro.
Mountain Girl and FLORA have both announced that they will have opening events tomorrow, with product on the shelves. Down in Rutland at Mountain Girl, the party gets started at 10 a.m.
In Middlebury at FLORA, doors open at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting shortly beforehand at 10:45. Both events are listed on our app and site.
Vermont Bud Barn in Brattleboro has said that they will be open in mid- to-late October. And representatives at Ceres told Seven Days they were pretty confident — but not certain — they would open on October 1, as they were still waiting for the state to actually issue their license as of earlier this week.
Ceres, which was one of Vermont’s first medical dispensaries, is owned by SLANG Worldwide Inc after last summer’s merger – one of the few out-of-state owned cannabis businesses in the adult use market.

What Can I Buy?
What will you see on the shelves? Probably not too much just yet. With only two licensed testing facilities and six manufacturers, and a late start issuing licenses to outdoor cultivators, you’ll see flower and pre-rolled joints, but not too much in the way of edibles, concentrates, vapes and other products that require longer processing time.
