Strain Review: Chemdawg by Mountain Girl Cannabis

Liz Wiley 16 Sep 2022

Chemdawg is a classic and potent hybrid that leans into modern sativa effects, easily recognized by its pungent aroma of diesel and spice. This strain was grown in Vermont by Mountain Girl Cannabis in Rutland, who became the first licensed social equity status cannabis retailer in the state this week.

Strain Review: Chemdawg

I had the opportunity to chat with Ana MacDuff of Mountain Girl Cannabis this summer at VTNORML’s Strut Your Stuff event. We were talking about how I really gravitate towards indica strains and sort of (maybe… most always) run from sativa due to past experience. She was very understanding and thoughtful, determined  to curate an experience with sativa that was positive and would make me want to try again. Enter – Chemdawg.

Pretty in pink – this bud was packaged in a hot pink Mylar baggie, clear on one side to show off the beautifully dark cola just beneath the surface. As soon as the package was open, the full body aroma of diesel hit me. Powerful caryophyllene, this bud’s dominant terpene, gave a note of peppercorn and a thick clove aftertaste. The spice profile of this bud makes it a fun fall favorite. Myrcene and limonene only enhance the flavor, solidifying an intoxicating fragrance through the inhale.

Not only were the trichomes thick and sticky, but the Calyx stayed orange all the way through to the stem.

Breaking the cola to pack my pipe put a huge smile on my face. Not only were the trichomes thick and sticky, but the calyx stayed orange all the way through to the stem.

After smoking Chemdawg I was left feeling rather creative, a side effect gifted from its parent cultivar, Sour Diesel. I finished making dinner, got a few chapters written, and wrote this review. However, my favorite side effect of this strain comes from its second parent cultivar, OG Kush. I had a very stressful, anxiety-riddled day and this bud eased those intrusive thoughts. Eventually relaxation came and I was able to unwind into sleep.

I had a very stressful, anxiety-riddled day and this bud eased those intrusive thoughts.

Chemdawg is hefty in THC content, clocking in at a whopping 18%. This strain is a hybrid that leans into modern sativa effects; energy, calm, happy, relaxation. Much like all high-THC Hybrids and sativas, beware of paranoia in high doses.

After the smoke cleared (literally – this bud is pungent and lingers, in the best ways of course), I would definitely smoke this strain again. Knowing your grower is so important in a genuine cannabis market and Mountain Girl Cannabis certainly has their product and customer care down to a craft.
