Over 800 attendees and assorted guests come together to celebrate growers and makers in the third annual Vermont growers cup at The Barns at Lang Farm

BURLINGTON, Vermont – In what can only be called a rousing success, Heady Vermont welcomed over 800 people to its third annual growers cup celebration, The Headies Cup, on Saturday, April 16.

At 11 a.m., an expectant line of around 100 people already waited at the door. All entries were on display for attendees to view, and around 20 cannabis, food and art vendors made a wide range of merchandise and free samples available to attendees, providing a taste of what the legal Vermont market might look like in the fall.

This year, the Cup saw a mix of returning competitors and new competitors, with 75 entries total – 45 flower, 10 concentrate, 16 edibles and 4 topicals. Several previous winners successfully defended their previous titles, with 2019 winner Trap Haus VT’s Greasy Runtz taking the highest overall flower score and again winning Indica.

Newcomer Green Mountain Munchies took the highest overall score in the competition with a THC-infused carrot cupcake. And Greenmont Craft Cannabis, who won the Hybrid category in 2019 with Zweet Inzanity, took their previous award-winning strain and turned it into dank preroll, scoring third highest overall in the Cup.

“The really cool thing about the Headies, this year in particular, is that we have a track record that quite clearly shows growers and makers have been doing this – and winning awards for it – since long before we were talking about opening dispensaries in Vermont,” said Heady Vermont CEO Monica Donovan. “Now, with the heightened consumer interest around cannabis, we have a chance to really showcase these growers and makers to a wider audience.”

The entries were judged by a range of experienced cultivators and other industry professionals, including guest judge Dan Vinkovetsky, (formerly Danny Danko of High Times), editor of Northeast Leaf Magazine and the host of the Grow Bud Yourself! Judges’ comments and highlights from all categories will be shared throughout the rest of the month.

All-star headliner Way Much Better, featuring Rob Compa and Chuck Jones of Dopapod, Vinnie Amico of moe., and Mike Gantzer of Aqueous, capped off Awards with a jam-heavy set, and a funky afterparty with the Headies Cup All Stars followed at Zenbarn, featuring Marcus Rezak, Ashish “Hash” Vyas of Thievery Corporation and other local talent.

The mission of The Headies, which takes place at The Barns at Lang Farm in northern Vermont, is to showcase and celebrate Vermont’s most talented cannabis cultivators and product makers.

All competing entries may be viewed online in the Headies 2022 Winners Gallery and event photos may be viewed in the Awards Party Gallery.

The following sponsors made this event possible: Presenting Sponsor Higher Elevation, Grove Bags, Bia Diagnostics Laboratories, The Cannabis Collective, Forbin’s Finest, Cannatrol, Zenbarn Farms, Magic Mann, Bern Gallery, JAM Creative, Boveda, Vermont NORML and Vermont Cannabis Solutions.
