Residents of Essex Junction, Castleton to Vote on Cannabis Retailers Next Week
ESSEX JCT — Next Tuesday, April 12, the Village of Essex Junction is voting on whether to legalize recreational cannabis sales. During its regular town meeting, village residents will have a chance to weigh in on this and a number of other budget and town-related issues. The question, posed in Article 4 of the Town Meeting ballot, asks:
Shall the Village of Essex Junction authorize cannabis retailers and retail portions of integrated licensee establishments in the Village pursuant to 7 V.S.A. § 863?
Another cannabis vote, this one a special vote, is scheduled in Castleton on Wednesday, April 13. The previous cannabis article failed by 45 votes. April 13 is also the day voters will be asked again whether or not to approve the budget for the Slate Valley Unified Union School District, which failed at Town Meeting Day by nine votes.
On Town Meeting Day this year, more than 40 Vermont communities voted on whether to allow cannabis sales. While a few voted no, a vast majority of the towns approved dispensaries.
