Looking Back With Joy, Looking Ahead With Anticipation

Cannabis Legalization Celebration Vermont
Kathryn Blume 30 Jan 2019

2018 was a huge year for Heady Vermont (not to mention cannabis in general). We grew our staff, expanded our volunteer base (thank you volunteers!), and vastly broadened the Heady Vermont Community. We now have over 500 individual members, 50+ business partners, more than 4,000 folks on our mailing list, and 11,000 followers across our social media platforms.

We put out 3 newsletters a week, and made friends with politicos, law enforcement, freelance journalists, artists, musicians, and of course, growers, makers, and entrepreneurs.

We launched a wide range of events, starting off with Cannabis In The Capitol – which brought in activists to meet their legislators, and saw the first CBD Education Fair in the Statehouse cafeteria.

Throughout the year, we organized and/or collaborated on CBD yoga, SkiBD, a visit from Rick Steves, women’s networking and business training events, Green Drinks, hemp/CBD farmers markets, film screenings, panel discussions, CBD brunches, and a tree-planting on Earth Day as part of our 4/20 celebrations.

Of course let us not forget our regular table at the Winooski Farmers Market, Heady Vermont day at the Lake Monsters, #VTCANN – Vermont’s first cannabis convention, the second annual Hemp Fest at Burke Mountain, the Members Harvest Dinner, and the legendary (and extremely hot) Legalization Celebration on July 1. It seems fitting that we both concluded 2018 and headed into this year with The Headies, our first cannabis cup.

We welcomed regular columnists like Rob Williams, Jessilyn Dolan, Joe Veldon, and Stephanie Boucher.

Eli Harrington kept up with the FB Live broadcasts and showed up on TV. A lot. Thank you WCAX!

We wrote profiles of partner businesses, artists, medical patients, and other interesting and compelling individuals.

Kathy Blume launched the Unhidden podcast, telling stories of cannabis and its friends, as legalization progresses and the culture changes.

Looking ahead, in addition to lobbying at the Statehouse, putting out an insiders #VTPoli newsletter, and tabling at Ski and Ride with The Point, we’re holding a second annual Cannabis In The Capitol event on Wednesday, February 13, complete with a press conference, activist training, and an education fair in the cafeteria.

We’ll be producing the third annual Hemp Fest 2019 on September 7, and kicking off the second annual Headies in December as we begin accepting entries for the second year of the Vermont cannabis cup.

Also look for all manner of media coming from HVT-HQ as well, including more video from Eli, more Unhidden podcasts from Kathy, a grow calendar, and a print Cannabis Guide to end all Cannabis Guides!

Knowing us, there will be other Events of Spontaneity and Celebration which arise as life and legalization progress, and we will keep you intimately informed.

Thanks so much for joining us and being part of this historic cultural and political awakening.
