Following the Vermont legislature’s historic bill legalizing recreational cannabis use for adults, and Vermont Governor Phil Scott signing the bill into law, Heady Vermont will host a celebration for members and the general public on July 1 – the day legalization goes into effect – at Willow Crossing Farm in Johnson. Willow Crossing Farm is an experimental and educational organic family farm, and the birthplace of the Prospect Rock Permaculture Project.

Sponsored by Phylos Bioscience, the celebration will feature an exhibition of local Vermont cannabis businesses, including growers and CBD producers, rosin pressing, a genetics exchange, free programming and cultivation workshops, as well as swimming, disc golf, yoga, food vendors, local beer, door prizes, and live music.

Participating bands include Barika, Tenderbellies, Conscious Roots, and Honeytwist – creators of Heady Vermont’s official theme song.

The week before the Legalization Celebration, Willow Crossing Farm founder Keith Morris will be hosting CannaCulture Camp – an immersive weeklong cultivation course leading up to July 1, for those interested in an immersive workshop on this spectacular permaculture and hemp farm.

“The Legalization Celebration is a recognition of the decades of work legalization advocates have put into changing misguided, regressive laws.” – Monica Donovan, Heady Cofounder

For the last two years, Heady Vermont has engaged in an ongoing effort to foster positive dialogue about all things cannabis, strengthen the relationship between the burgeoning hemp industry and the citizens of Vermont, and dismantle decades of fear and misinformation about this ancient and extremely beneficial plant.

“The Vermont Legislature has taken an important step in legalizing cannabis for recreational use,” says Heady Vermont co-founder Eli Harrington. “They’ve demonstrated the truth that cannabis is not a dangerous Schedule 1 narcotic to be feared and banned, but instead recognized that it’s a highly potent medicinal, and a source of fun and pleasure on a par with – and maybe even better than – local microbrews.”

Heady Vermont co-founder Monica Donovan agrees. “The Legalization Celebration is a recognition of the decades of work legalization advocates have put into changing misguided, regressive laws,” says Donovan, “And an opportunity to begin a process of public education about how individuals can grow cannabis, and create a variety of products for their personal use.”

Presale tickets for this 21+ event are free for Heady Vermont members and $50 for the general public. July 1 Celebration tickets are on sale now via Brown Paper Tickets. To encourage carpooling and to discourage driving, the event will feature onsite camping, free shuttle transportation from Burlington, as well as cash incentives for people who arrive by bike or boat.
